Print & Pattern Book!
i am super excited and extremely honored, to say the least, to have my work { littleoddforest } featured in the print & pattern book, by pattern design guru curator, bowie style! especially along with so many other talented designers – all 119 of them! you will know the most famous ones, like orla kiely, cath kidston, and jill bliss, but it’s a great mix of big and small, with lesser known artists, such as myself! lynda lye! – with a little of our bio and background information. how fun!!!
and such an honor to also be alongside some of the artists whose work i love, like ana ventura, caroline pratt, helen dardik, and marilyn patrizio! and a few other designers whose work i have just discovered and fallen in love with, such as silkie lloyd, scott rhodes, and patapri, thanks to this book!
i have already ordered a few copies a couple of months ago (the book was launched in march this year 2010), and gifted them to some people whom i know would appreciate it. hee… you know who you are! you can get yours here! -
http://www.amazon.com/Print-Pattern-Bowie-Style/dp/1856696464
or a kinokuniya if you have one near you!
you do not have to be a designer to appreciate this book, this book is for all who love design, if you are seeking inspiration, or just wanting to have a big dose of design goodness!
i have been anxiously waiting for this book to be published and launched, ever since 2 years ago, when london-based designer, marie perkins (i did not know that bowie was her online pseudonym until last year!! gosh!), from the very famous pattern design blog – http://www.printpattern.blogspot.com – emailed me to ask for some product shots and write-ups. it has been 2 years since! if you read my info in the book, it says i’ve been doing this for the past 4 years, but it will actually be my 6th year chugging along with my baby, littleoddforest, this year 2010!
bowie scours the world for all good things, design and pattern related, as can be testified by her blog full of visual deliciousness! this print & pattern book is basically a compilation of current designers whom she had most probably previously featured/mentioned in her blog, who work with graphics, surface design, patterns, illustrations and etc., and translate them onto actual products like stationary, textiles and the like.
bowie has been really generously supportive of my work – littleoddforest has been previously featured in her print & pattern blog, and she has also very kindly helped me with some questions i had about expanding my line abroad, when i emailed her asking for any input she might have for me.
thank you so much!!

a very eventful and super crazy month so far…. and still more exciting news to come! some sneaks below… later, cute peeps!

handmade nation fundraiser
this is coming in late, but better late than never….
paper boat is one of littleoddforest’s fab stockist, co-owned by filmmaker/author, faythe levine
“Faythe Levine, co-owner of Paper Boat, is also working on an independently produced documentary called “Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft & Design” (also to be released as a book by Princeton Architectural Press in November 2008).
The documentary is currently in post production and is in need of funding assistance. In order to help with production cost, monthly raffles have been set up to raise money.
For more information about the documentary, book and to buy raffle tickets please visit the Handmade Nation BLOG HERE. There is also an Etsy shop HERE where you can purchase promotional items and donated handmade work. All proceeds of the raffle and the Etsy shop go towards production cost.”
the softies kit
i’m pretty late in announcing this… dear therese has a new book out!

it’s her new “the softies kit” and it’s now out and available on amazon! inside this new softies craft book are 15 selected fun softie projects from the previous softies book, except now that it also comes with some felt, floss and etc.! actual materials you’ll need to start on making ‘em!
think you were clueless about getting the materials for the projects in her first book, softies?
well, no worries for this new one! (^____^) so if you didn’t get the previous softies book, maybe you’ll want to get yourself this!
in therese’s own words – “I had such a great time putting this book/kit together. I *love* all the projects and I REALLY love that the kit makes such a great give for beginner softie-makers – many of the projects are pretty easy, all are fun and if you’re just starting you don’t have to worry about where to find the supplies to make one and get your feet wet in this world.”
yeah! hooray, and congrats to you, therese! xoxo!
plush shows with lof plushies
plush show #1
(this totally completely slipped my mind.. boohoooo!!!)
3 lof plushies were at this year’s plush you! show, held last friday, 12 oct 2007 @ both schmancy, and nancy and fancy+pants (1932 second ave. seattle, wa 98101)
this year’s show featured more than 100 artists from all over the world! including littleoddforest
for those of you still unfamiliar with plush you! (what???? tsk.), it is an annual exhibit of plushies founded and organised by kristen rask, mistress of schmancy, her gallery-shop in seattle
this year’s plush you! is also like no other year’s, the show has grown so much since its first show in 2005, and plush you! has worked with f+w publishing this year and released a book — plush you!: loveable misfit toys to sew and stuff. woweee! you can now pre-order it at amazon here!

I’m not sure if littleoddforest plushies are in the book, most probably not i think, even if yes, it will only be a photo + short biography, because i did not contribute a pattern for our treeling plushies which were exhibited at last year’s plush you! show, since we have already contracted the pattern rights to another book prior to this one, which is therese’s softies craft book. but! i’m very sure it is filled to the brim with lots of awesome creations from so many other plush artists! so now you’ve a new book to add to your list eh?
yiipp!
plush show #2
remember the luv-able & hug-able plush show with originality held by gallery lele in daikanyama, tokyo, that littleoddforest participated early this year?
well, together with the same cwc group that organised that show, gallery hanahou in soho, new york city, will be having their very own luv-able & hug-able plush show from 8 november – 21 december!
In our business of helping artists to express themselves through commercial media, we have increasingly come to desire a new way to encourage our artists to explore the furthest reaches of their creativity. We hope that gallery hanahou will be a venue through which we can introduce new dimensions of our artists’ work to the community.
We have also discovered many talented artists working in more diversified fields such as pop art, craft arts, and product design, whose work does not necessarily fit neatly into the commercial art business but is nonetheless deserving of exposure. Acting as a forum for these artists in addition to our own commercial artists, gallery hanahou will present the public with art in a dazzling array of forms: not only original paintings and prints, but also art toys, craft art, art products, and more. “
littleoddforest was most kindly invited to exhibit again by the wonderful people of cwc – so 3 of lof plushies will be showing there! this show is meant to coincide with the christmas holiday shopping season, so if you’re nearby, you should definitely mark the exhibition dates and maybe adopt some one-of-a-kind plushies for yourself or someone else!
if that’s out of the question, and you’d like to give some arty pressies this year (or get some for yourself!), go purchase some art here!

====================================================================
add-on:
before i fly off to do “nothingness”…..
this is an open invite to all you stuff makers out there with your own web shoppe!
the busy shopping holiday season is just round the corner (so soon!?!) and some of the people i like have opened new shops (you know who you are!), some others i’ve patronised and bought stuff from, some others i’ve been supporting, and more of whom i’m conversed with!
so! feel most free to send me your business cards, promos, discount coupons, or whatever you have to promote your shop and goodies, and I’ll be most happy to include them in all my orders!
you can let me know before you send them off, so i’ll know when any mail is missing etc.
happy weekend! xoxoxo!
>2 more weeks to NBT!
>don’t say you weren’t reminded! (^__~)
>fashion is spinach film series
>fashion is spinach is having its second screening this coming saturday, 14 april! i heard about its first screening when it was already over and done with (being the super irregular blog-reader me… sigh), and then i’ve 3 short trips abroad these few weekends, and so i can forget about catching this second one as well…argh! but hey! YOU can! if you’re in singapore (^__~)
go here — www.fashionisspinach.com
and here — www.fashionisspinach.com/2007/03/on-with-show.html
for more delightful information!
if you don’t already know, “Ms. Spinach is a fashion writer, photoblogger and rampant overspender currently living in Asia. Fashion is Spinach dot com is her blog focusing on interesting design, quirky finds and personal style–just like its namesake book. Sort of.”
this second screening will be showing unzipped – “a documentary that follows Isaac Mizrahi as he preps for a big collection and runway show. Tons and tons of cameos, and a great behind-the-scenes look at putting together a collection. Plus! It was shot in the mid-1990s so the fashion concepts are a little ridiculous.”
the screening will be at the pitch black, be there from 7:30pm onwards to have some yummy brownies and socialise. otherwise, the film starts at 8.30pm. seats are limited, and ms. spinach recommends that you rsvp her. and you will also have the chance to catch ms. spinach in something pink, bright, and ostentatious. so she divulges. hee
and there’s also a raffle prize to give away to the audience! ta-da! a littleoddforest leaf wristlet, in a vintage blue-colored kimono fabric with textural touch. much thanks to ms. spinach who has kindly asked lof for sponsorship!
that’s all for now, folks! back to slogging in my sweatshop workshop…. ha!
>indie craft documentary
>it has been really hectic recently, i even managed to squeeze in a short 3-day work trip abroad, amidst the work and usual booze and socialising…. and we also welcomed littleoddforest’s new personal assistant, belle, who started work on april fools’ day! hope you don’t find things too crazy to handle, belle!!
i’ve also been finalising our new spring/summer ’07 collection, “renovating” our web shoppe bit by bit, and etc… so sorry if i haven’t had the chance to reply your emails… i don’t have time to read anything at all… unless it is thrust upon my lap, or face, or… well, you get the drift…
anyways, just a few must-share things again! —>
this is an exciting sneak peak of selected footage from the awesome handmade nation: the rise of diy art, craft & design, by filmmakers faythe levine of flying fish gallery and michaela o’herlihy, who have travelled round the united states filming and documenting the diy movement!
it’s also like a preview of who and what i can hopefully expect to see when i make my trip this sept!! i’m so thrilled!! eeppp! now i know more of the faces, and hopefully names!… i’m horrible with names…unless i’ve sat down for coffee with you for more than an hour stretch…
oh! i loovee the website design as well! do check out — www.indiecraftdocumentary.com — for more information!
