littleoddforest has been ripped off by Target :(
MY littleoddforest ORIGINAL HANDMADE DESIGN of the Hoot The Owl Sling Purse, which I cam up with in Year 2007 and is and has only been handmade with love, has been COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF & CHEAPLY MASS PRODUCED by TARGET in the United States. Please know that you are only buying quality handmade fabric bags made with lots of love by us, and not very cheaply mass-produced in a factory production assembly line ;(
I hope everyone can respect only original designs and their designers, and NOT SUPPORT COPYCATS, large or small, corporate or indie, because they are all THIEVES.

we are always handmade with lots of love…
i believe an extremely overdue birthday-thank you note is in order..!
going behind the scenes in the littleoddforest… besides the mundane administrative stuff which involves emails, packing orders, and so on, and more unimaginable, mundane boring stuff that needs to be done in order to operate a business, the entire littleoddforest collection, week after week, month after month, year after year, the fulfilling of orders and restocking of the web shoppe, none of those would have been possible without help from my fantastic littleoddforest sewing fairies. my tiny crafting team has been constantly evolving over all these years, and although trying at times, with countless ups and downs, but also sharing laughter and joy, and solving problems together, i believe it has been the most liberating experience, working and learning with these angels.. i love you gals. thanks for rocking. really. Czar Czar, Belle, Norie, and Ate Beth, and all my littleoddforest fairies in Singapore (including Shelley and Meredith, and Christine, who is always there to help out for almost all LOF outings), and of course, especially Auntie Millie and my dearest super Mummy. what would i do without all of you!?? nothing would have come into fruition. i would have cut and sewn until i died, and not have the time nor physical means to do anything else that this little operation involves, and sell nothing. and gave up. nothing would have worked out. absolutely nothing.
thank you to all who have stuck around me and littleoddforest all these time and believed in what i believed in, that is { fabric goodness that’s always handmade with lots of love, fair wage and sweatshop-free }, and supported littleoddforest in whatever ways you can. of course my own sweatshop is me, the slave driver and the slave who works more than 12 hours a day most days of the week. whoopsy
i love what i make, and make only what i love, and i want you to love what i love to. xoxo!
first, it was couture. now, it is bespoke…
bespoke or couture? apparently, for some, it is not an option. they use both : Bespoke couture. that tickles me so much. it seems i will never get those people and their love for trendy words. not satisfied with just one ‘in’ word? why not hash both together? brilliant! ha!
Bespoke Too Soon
Dear Word Detective: Suddenly I am seeing the word “bespoke” everywhere I turn. Magazines are running articles gushing over some actor’s “bespoke boots” and singing the praises of “bespoke wedding gowns.” Everything is suddenly “bespoke.” What does this mean, and where did it come from? — K. Mercurio, New York City.
It means that the Great Media Herd is on the move again, that’s what it means. Most people don’t know this, but after the Great Plains buffalo was hunted to near-extinction in the 19th century, worried conservationists began to search for a species to replace the beleaguered behemoths. After extensive testing, the Department of the Metaphors settled on magazine writers as replacements for the buffalo, noting their docility, lack of imagination and, most importantly, their allegiance to the herd mentality.
The only problem with magazine writers as a species is that they are extremely suggestible — to paraphrase a metaphor, it’s strictly magazine writer see, magazine writer write, over and over and over again. Once a particular trendy word has seized the tiny collective mind of the herd, you can rest assured that you’ll be seeing that word, be it “meme” or “trope” or “gamin” or “waif” or “soigne,” from now ’til next Christmas in every imaginable context. In other words, brace yourself, because the herd has just begun to “bespoke.”
Not that there’s anything wrong with “bespoke,” you understand. It’s just the past participle of the verb “bespeak,” which means “to arrange” or “to order.” Something that is “bespoke” has been made to order, as opposed to being purchased ready-made. It’s a slightly archaic term, heard until recently almost exclusively in British English.
“Bespoke” lately seems to have caught the fancy of people for whom just saying “custom-made” does not provide the “frisson” (1995′s buzz word, by the way) it once did. The wealthy (and the journalists who watch them) are as fickle (and silly) in their choice of trendy words as they are in other matters of fashion — what else explains all those Range Rovers in Beverly Hills? Of course, now that every magazine reader in Des Moines is being bombarded with “bespoke,” Mr. and Mrs. Gotrox are going to need a new word.

why, oh why, singapore…?
what is “van gogh” doing at this void deck : http://www.razor.tv/site/servlet/segment/main/news/66180.html
“” because… it is NOT van gogh.
i love you, my country, Singapore. but you really can be such a disgrace many times, with regards to the celebration of originality art and design. For generations (and more to come), the children in Singapore are being taught that endorsing ANYTHING famous in ANY WAYS possible, including being “inspired by” (which, come on, let’s be real, is really “COPIED from”) is nothing but good.
Buying a painting? – is the painter famous?
Buying a bag? – is it a famous international brand?
Painting the void deck? – there’s nothing better than using a famous artist’s work.
Singing at the NDP? – the best option would be to plagiarize a commercial hit song.
SO.GOD.DAMN.PROUD.OF.YOU. and very very saddened….

Adopt your doodle-face fabric buttons here! In Aid Of Japan
A total of 70 hand-pressed hand-drawn doodle-face buttons have been adopted so far! (I will be updating the final amount again later this week) – thank you all for showing your support for our Japan Relief Fundraiser. Sew it on or pin it on to show off your support! Kindly note once again that Full Proceeds from the Net Sales of these buttons will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross. Besides the cost of materials and so on, I will also be paying for all the etsy fees from my own pocket, so no worries about that.
This Surprise Doodle-Face Fabric Button fundraiser In Aid Of Japan, one of our favorite places in this world, will continue until this Friday 25 March 2011, marking 1 week since I started this fundraiser in aid of Japan, and 2 weeks since the terrible tragedy struck. Because I am out of town, it will be pretty difficult to attend to all your doodle-faces requests. Honestly, I am having so much fun attending to all your faces-requests – I have not had such freestyle, freehand fun in quite a while, and that is one of my favorite things to do, ever. And I also did not expect you sweet peeps to enjoy having a requests option so much! Thus the decision to end the fundraiser this Friday. I think it has been a pretty successful 5-day run so far on, considering the buttons are going for only $5 each
Please continue to show your support if you can and help spread the word. 3 more days! Thank you, and Ganbatte, Japan! Our friends there have been reporting their safety, and we are very sure that our favorite Nippon-land will get right back up on its feet really soon. I want to visit again real soon for some fabric shopping!
CURRENT TOTAL : $214.49 + $92.40 = $306.89 (click More below for details). Thank you so much for giving from your hearts! The second batch of doodle-faces will be mailed out today (Wed 23 March 2011). *First batch of doodle-faces have already been mailed out! (Mon 21 March 2011)

UPDATE 2 : 40 buttons sold to 14 kind souls in 24 hours – a big thank you! And many more doodle-faces await you! Because ‘every little bit counts!‘. Do help to forward the message if you want to help further but have already donated
UPDATE 1 : 20 buttons sold in the last 12 hours – thanks so much for your support! i know there are like a bazillion fundraisers going on right this second, since a week ago. But i still hope to do better than this! Our tagline is ‘every little bit counts!‘ , which is why I decided upon something small and very affordable like a fabric button. Help in whatever big or small ways you can, and help to forward the message! Ganbatte!
After donating cash towards their fund relief efforts almost 1 week ago, I have been thinking about how else to keep helping Japan in my own little way when this terrible tragedy struck.
So after talking with a couple of friends and queries from customer-friends of littleoddforest, I have decided to squeeze out the little time I have left to do this, and hopefully be able to help rally efforts and chip in more to help the Japanese.
The Japanese have been so inspiring since this disaster struck (if you have read or watched the news). Their civility, strength and perseverance – Our hearts go out to everyone there and we are sure that their strength and spirit will get them through the difficult period ahead.
So here’s my humble wee little effort :
100% of all NET SALES of these buttons will go the the Singapore Red Cross
SGD 5 + SGD 1.00 (INTERNATIONAL Airmail Regular Shipping – 11 to 15 Days)
SGD 5 + SGD 0.30 (SINGAPORE Regular Shipping – 3 to 5 Days)
All fabric buttons will be hand pressed and hand drawn freestyle upon order placed, and they will be nicely packed in clear plastic, in an envelope, and mailed out in 3 business days from the date of purchase.
- EACH AND EVERY FACE WILL BE DIFFERENT AND WILL BE A SURPRISE! -
Feel free to let me know if there are any which you would prefer to have but no promises, e.g. girl with glasses or cat face etc.
FABRIC USED IS A TREE-BARK PATTERNED FABRIC (either Light Beige or Light Pink).
As I will be out of town until the 4th of April, all buttons will be mailed out on the 5th of April as soon as I get back. The good news is, I have someone to help me mail them out until the 27th of March. So I will be busy making ready-made buttons prior to my trip.
For now, I have decided to hold this fundraiser until I run out of my button supplies.
Donation will be made when the fundraiser ends, or when I have raised at least SGD 200.
“Because every little bit counts!”
xoxo

our starry rainbow pouch in a hollywood movie?
so, last month, harlan films called us from the united states, requesting for permission to use our starry rainbow pouch as a prop/set dressing for their upcoming motion picture, greenberg
it’s going to be florence’s (greta gerwig) pouch, going to be totally her style.
do i read ben stiller in the release form?? scott rudin?? that’s insane!!!
i didn’t know they even request for permission for such small matters. they must need to send a bazillion requests out for every of such movie made.
it was really insane, for like, 2 hours or so.
died down once i received the formal request letter and faxed over the signed release form.
so, i know, it’s just going to be 1 tiny weeny pouch in a gargantuan movie set.
friends who knew about it promised they’ll squint to find the pouch once the movie is out, if it’s going to be included in any frames for that matter.
fine.
hahahah
but still
so i had clean forgotten about it, what with all the truckload of work and my personal hoo-hah, until i read an email from meredith this evening, about her nephew working as a crew on the set of greenberg.
!!! insane!
sick to my stomach.

isn’t this almost similar to legally producing and selling fake chanels anything and fake patek phillipe watches just so that “not so well-off” people can buy and enjoy them???? what in the world??? gahhhhh! such an atrocity!!!
bringing art to the “heartlanders” ??????
in the very first fucking place, this is exactly WHY the so-called “heartlanders” they are referring to here, will NEVER learn what art is all about! never! in this country that i call my home!
why appreciate the real thing in this or that internationally-acclaimed museum, when you can get a replica and hang in your “humble heartland flat”. why bother supporting talented current artists whose art pieces costs 4-digits and above, when you can get a FAKE van gogh for just lesser than $300 singapore dollars?????
courtesy of poor self-taught “painters” from the usual suspects – developing countries like china, vietnam and indonesia
shit!
fuck!
i’m sorry but, i’m beyond sick to my guts.
fyi, this is in today’s straits times papers, life section.
rushing off for an urgent meeting, but just had to spend a few minutes ranting my brains out here.
ciao. bad day. bad day!
